I think Bug is wrong and Karnak is in the (possibly rebuilt) Tower of Wisdom which is where he was trained. I am wondering if Warren Ellis is planning on giving us a what happens to Karnak when he is exposed to the Terrigen Mists story since its all around now and Karnak traditionally was the only member of the Royal Family that was not exposed to the mist after what it did to his brother Triton. Still a good book and I love the reason that Karnak is alive now is that he found the weakness in the afterlife and escaped to the mortal realm.

  2. Ambush Bug says:

No you’re wrong tigger11 because…well, maybe you’re right and the Tower of Wisdom was a thing. Still, I don’t remember any Karnak stories outside of Inhuman stories, so I believe Ellis is just making this stuff up to fill in his origin. Which is fine, it just hasn’t been in any comic before. If it has, let me know with and issue number and year and I’ll eat my words. With relish.

  3. HAHA Bug is wrong, I win PODCAST xoxo Douche

  4. Tigger11 says:

Oh the Tower of Wisdom or Weeping Tower as its also known is definitely a thing before this first issue of Karnak, its not an invention of Ellis. I didnt have the issue around, so didnt realize Ellis had called it by name, as you are implying with your rebuttal Bug. X-Men: First Class vol 1, #2 has a reference too it, but I actually think their are older references too dating back to when Karnak was trying to break the shell around the Great Refuge with his bare hands. And yes Rob, that does mean you won the podcast, now I am going to go read the new shrinking man before Bug drools all over it at the next podcast.

    Hello Tards,

Another fine episode, hitting all the PopTardsGo checkmarks. Especially AB.

Yeah, so… you know my little Facebook rant was in jest, yes? (Under my real name, Terry O’Brien.) Sometimes humor is lost in the written word. Unless, of course, you didn’t read it. LIKE KARNAK, AMIRITE? (Heh… jk.)

Anyway, as promised I’ve been hitting all the trades at my local liberry. Caught up on the Black Lantern dealie with Lex losing his goddamned mind. Thor: Fear Itself, lots of Civil War stuff, City of Owls, Death of Spider-Man, Death/ Return of Cap, Return of Bruce Wayne, etc. (Yes, I’m 10 years behind but catching up.)

A lot of it is meh-to-ok-to-pretty good. I guess it’s the curmudgeon in me that doesn’t like my classic characters from the 70s and 80s getting complete overhauls to beyond recognition. But I’ve come to terms with that. I guess I AM the father when they say “this ain’t your father’s Justice League.”

The Walking Dead is always pretty great. Do you think they have an endgame in mind? How much longer do you think the book and TV show remain relevant?

Also, I picked up the first trade of Fables. I recall you guys all kind of raving about it. I found it to be a fairly clever deconstruction of the fairy tales we all know, but wasn’t knocked out by the first 2 arcs (The Rose Red mystery, the Fable Revolution). Does it get better after these 2 arcs? Keep reading?

I’m also in the first part of the Multiversity trade and am, so far, hooked. What did you guys think about it?

Thanks as always. See you on the Twitters.

  6. Mazer Rackham says:

Yeah… so… about Multiversity… lasted about 4 issues before throwing my hands up. I can see how it would be fascinating to nu-comic fans ensconced in the mythology of the New 52 and whatnot. But this Silver Age guy couldn’t hang.

And really? An African-American Superman who just HAPPENS to be President and just HAPPENS to bear a strong resemblance to the current Commander-in-chief? This, along with Sam Wilson Cap declaring a border security militia his greatest enemy? Tell me again how comics aren’t left-leaning?

    Happy Halloween!

  8. JD (Host) says:

NO NO NO! Did you at least read the WATCHMEN issue!?!?!? READ THE WATCHMEN ISSUE!

  9. JD (Host) says:

NO, I don’t think that there is an endgame in WALKING DEAD, I’m pretty sure he’s just writing as he goes, but that’s not a knock on the series, I love it.

As for Fables, I know everyone loves it, but I got bored after a couple trades and put it down.
