Man that interview was great, ya’ll are da best sometimes. Bug I was starting to worry about you but you totally redeemed yourself this week with your points on Women and the Blacks(inks), thanks bro.

  2. Paul says:

Well look at you all. On your best behavior now that there’s a creator on the other line. Were you listening when Dennis was explaining there’s no need to listen to the critics, or were you just violently nodding your heads in agreement? He essentially said your work as poptards has no value. You three think Leia #1 is garbage? CBR gives it a 4/5, Comicvine 4/5 and IGN a 7.9 out of 10. Three thumbs down, three thumbs up. It doesn’t matter. The talkbacks don’t matter. And for you to play the victim card in the interview is laughable. You don’t like it when someone yells back on the internet? Could it be because 2/3 of you bash titles, creators, and publishers at least once a show if not multiple times? The hate you take = the hate you make.

I didn’t even navigate over here for that absurdity, it was actually for Ambush Bug’s inane rant about he’s just drowning in female lead comic book titles. Well let’s take look if that’s perception or reality:
    http://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/2015/2015-01.html
I count 10 out of the top 100 in sales as having a female protagonist. 10% of the top comics are lead by females and it’s an unbearable trend?

  3. Ambush Bug says:

Not sure why you’ve got the snippity attitude, Paul. Do you think we write our reviews simply for the reviewers to read them? We don’t. We’ve always done our reviews for the consumers and those curious about frank statements about comics. It doesn’t surprise me that writers are given the guidance to not pay attention to reviewers. If that was the case, Rob Liefeld would have given up the ghost long ago. What I heard in the interview was a bunch of folks chatting about comics, covering a whole ton of issues, including how Hopeless carries on with criticism and guidance from others. It doesn’t invalidate the role of the reviewer one bit. It only speaks to how Marvel preps their writers to take criticism.

And as far as your link to the list of best comics. Yes the top sellers are male lead books, but if you were listening (and not just listening to be offended once the topic of women came up and immediately got on your soapbox), I was talking about the inundation of female protagonist comics in comics for the least year or so. Sure a reactionary troll like you would take that as a negative statement towards women, but in fact it was just an observation that out of the tons of new series we cover every week that have a female lead. Nothing wrong with it, but it gets rather boring after a while. Now, the cream will rise to the top, but there are going to be a lot of stinkers.

And I really don’t give a fig about OGN, CBR, or any of the other sites. I read it and I thought PRINCESS LEIA was pretty awful, as did the other two. It’s an opinion. I just don’t give books a pass because it furthers a trend. It’s gotta be good. Just because it’s a female lead series, doesn’t mean it’s good.

  4. roland says:

Cream like the female lead Jungle Book from Underscore Miller? O and has Douche showed you his shirtless acting from what looks like the 90’s on Youtube? Oscar worthy, Tony worthy, Assie Worthy!

  5. Ambush Bug says:

Say what you will about Zenescope, but they were doing the strong leading ladies thing before it became trendy.

  6. Roland says:

I know its hard to tell, but I was paying you a compliment about your work, not poking fun(well maybe a little).

  7. Roland says:

I think you’re going to get yourself some heat for calling female lead protagonist books “trends” or “Trendy”. Personally I hope its not just a trend or fad for the time being and that it attracts females to read more comics and increase the market size for us all.

  8. JD (Host) says:

Yeah I’m not sure that qualifies as a trend, hopefully it’s catering to a lasting influx of a demographic! I think maybe what he’s talking about is “oh look! female protagonist books are hot right now, let’s just put out crappy female protagonist books!”

  9. JD (Host) says:

Paul: “On our best behavior?” Lol I told him I hate him and that his opinion is wrong. Whatchoo talknbout Willis? He was a great sport and we had a blast! And him saying that he doesn’t pay attention to reviews or the internet isn’t the same as saying it has no value, but nice try. We get together to chat about comics because we love comics. At no point should you base what you buy on what others have to say about it, unless you have no opinion of your own. We aren’t here to tell you what’s good and what’s bad, we are here to have fun chatting about the week’s comics.

My favorite part of your comment though is you coming on to tell us we as reviewers have no worth. So what does that say about you, coming on to Review the Reviewers?

    winky face

  10. Roland says:

    JD~

Yea I figured as much, it’s just fun to poke the beast sometimes.

  11. That fuckin Goose almost pecked my dick off. 1996, a wee north of Pittsburgh I agreed to act in a student film that ironically has garnered me free tequila for the past 9 years. Long story, but my love of Casa Noble is satiated because of the video train wreck.

Oh and what the fuck is Paul saying. We knew we were worthless before we were told. Have you listened to us before, we have more self doubt than if Natalie and Blair were the last two women on Earth. Only way Nat is getting fucked is if she eats Blair.
