Thanks for a good show this week.

A couple thoughts (since at heart, the main thing I like about superheroes is X-Men)…

-I read somewhere, I think it was Tom Brevoort’s Tumblr, that Bendis DID want to go back non-cat Beast, but the editor wouldn’t allow it, and a third party (Matt Fraction?) suggested letting Stuart Immomen do a redesign instead, and that was approved.

-Isn’t the first new graphic novel No More Humans? I just read it, and it had a number of qualities that seemed like what you were complaining about with floppies were contained inside… Things that could be compared to scenes in a movie, very memorable. Without spoiling, I liked the trip to space, the zombie, and the climax. If crossovers had more moments in them like this, they’d go over better.

-Speaking of crossovers, Bendis hasn’t been in charge since Dark Reign, which wasn’t really a crossover, just a status quo. Fraction headed Fear Itself, Hickman, Infinity, and Aaron Original Sin. Am I missing something?

-Happy to hear you guys fight about X-Men. I love the books, and read Days of Future Past about 25 years ago. I had no expectations for this movie, and I think Singer kind of sucks. X-2 was good for that first Nightcrawler scene, and the scene where Iceman ‘comes out’, but I was never a big fan. First Class was by far my favourite. The high Rotten Tomato rating has me looking forward to enjoying it. But that thing with Kitty doesn’t bother me at all. No non-comics reader will give a fuck about it. WE know her power is nothing like that, but people don’t care, and I don’t either. It’s like when Raimi made the webs organic. Nobody cares. I’m still pissed that Gwen dying was the climax of ASM 2, since the original story helped define the character, when he vows to kill the Goblin and can’t go through with it. But Rachel Summers being able to send Kitty through time has nothing to do with Rachel’s power set either. Someone sends someone though time. Whatever.

I always felt Singer was heavy handed, and a little embarrassed of the source material, so I’m glad to hear he mad something interesting. And I like to hear geek fights. Better than bum fights. Like Eltingville.

Show was great this week, though I only listened till the start of the movie review since I have been on vacation I haven’t seen the movie and would rather watch it before I hear your guys comments about it.

JD: Did I understand right that the store you work at is in the King of Prussia Mall? I’m liable to be in Philly this fall or early next year for some integration on the Osprey, so if that correct I may swing buy and see the store.

Saw X-Men yesterday: very good. I still prefer First Class, but the use of powers was fantastic (Blink, Quicksilver, and Magneto on the train). There is a blandness in the framing. Vaugn simply has a better knack for directing. And I loathe the costumes of the future.

But the story was mostly solid. I was very satisfied, never bored.
