    They’re Cancelling X-FACTOR??? WHAT??? NO!!!

  2. Mazer Rackham says:

Gentlmen (and I use that term loosely… nyuck nyuck!),

Thanks for the advice. I would also be interested on hearing your informed thoughts on the Orson Scott Card debate.

Oh, and this is Terry O’Brien, but figured I better come up with a cool nom de tard.

  3. rob patey says:

Orson Scott Card boils down to the old debate of can you separate the creator from the creation?

I’ve read the entire Ender series. Not once was man loving required for the story, nor was the story lessened by not having it.

I read it years before I knew his personal views, so I would like to be all high and mighty by saying, “fuck that guys work, we disagree on one facet of the human existence!” But I would then be a hypocrite, because I love Enders Game.

But only when the lady asks for it.

  4. I like Kennedy fanfiction, it’s my Twilight. Viva La COMEDIAN!

  5. We know where it ends…that’s the point!!

I know how sex ends and I love that too.

The cynical will attribute the underlying message of this book to a middle-aged curmudgeonly state of mind that happens to each generation. I disagree; I think this societal malaise on American soil is unique to this time period. Never before have we felt such a collective state of helplessness, which is truly bred in large part from our own cowardice in losing the spoils of consumerism. This isn’t just a theory; it’s an idea that has slipped into the zeitgeist and grown daily. I have a graphic novel coming out soon called AVERAGE JOE. While greatly different in plot and tonality, an underlying thread is this degradation of ambition from the Great Generation to its predecessors. Millar and I are far from the only two who feel this way, and with that I can’t believe this many authors independently create work so on theme without it carrying a collective truth.

  7. Didn’t read the last two. Wasn’t on, didn’t have to.

  8. Mazer Rackham says:

Thanks. His views make me itchy, but I don’t begrudge his right to believe what he believes. And he is not quite the flame-throwing extremist he’s been made out to be.

If you’ve read his entire oeuvre (fancy word!) you know he has written several gay characters, and with nothing less than the love he gives all his characters.

Read the book(s) in the early 90’s and the teaser for the teaser made my heart leap with the very brief shot of the battle room. I hope OSC enjoys whatever success comes from EG, because he will never be allowed to make another film in Hollywood. Which is a shame. Because Speaker for the Dead would be epic.
