JAN 9, 20-XII PSA: Webcomics you SHOULD OBSERVE

Hello friends,

Today I’ve decided to inform you nerds about a number of web comic series you ought to check out.

#1 – Hark! A Vagrant by Kate Beaton

If you haven’t heard of Kate Beaton’s “Hark! A Vagrant” (www.harkavagrant.com) then you are really missing out. Hark! A Vagrant has been on the rise in popularity over the last several years because of it’s smart writing and humorous art style. Beaton pulls content from history, literature, pop culture and from her own day-to-day life. The amount of knowledge and care she has for history is refreshing and is unique to this medium. Beaton has published two books. Her first book is called “Never Learn Anything From History”. Her second book, also called “Hark! a Vagrant”, reached number 1 on the New York Times Bestseller list for Graphic Novels in October of 2011.

#2 – Friends With Boys by Faith Erin Hicks

I actually just read this today. Friends With Boys (www.friendswithboys.com) is written and illustrated by Faith Erin Hicks. This is a cute story about a tomboyish girl named Maggie who has been home-schooled her entire life, until now. She’s going to be a freshman in high school and she’s really freaked out about it. She’s on a mission to make some new friends who aren’t just her brothers. Beyond that though, she seems like a normal girl…except for one small thing. She…well, you’ll need to read it to find out.

#3 – Johnny Wander by Yuko Ota and Ananth Panagariya

Johnny Wander (www.johnnywander.com) is one I’ve been following for years. This comic is created by the combined efforts of illustrator, Yuko Ota, and writer, Ananth Panagariya. This is a New York based slice-of-life comic about the lives of these two and their friends after college. The pacing and creative panel work help to make some very funny stories. The art is exquisite and imaginative. Ota and Panagariya put a lot of work and passion behind this project. Of course, I don’t know that for sure. But once you read through Johnny Wander, it is a pretty easy assumption.

Anywho, thats all for now kids. This was my first post here on Poptards and it won’t be my last so…BE EXCITED. GOOD DAY.
